The neo-folk ensemble Mitsune from Berlin will perform at the Berlin Asia Arts Festival with a four-piece line-up. It brings together artists from Japan, Australia and Greece. Together they create a harmonious mesh of dynamic shamisen playing, singing, rhythmic percussion and the melodic sound of the double bass. They build a musical bridge between past and present by blending traditional sounds of the Tsugaru shamisen, a three-stringed Japanese lute popular with blind folk musicians in ancient Japan, with elements of Eastern blues, jazz and dance. These diverse influences create a sound that is as refreshing as it is impressive, taking listeners on a journey into the magical world of Japanese folklore.
Mitsune also captivates audiences with their visually stunning performances, where traditional and modern elements collide. Their shows are filled with energetic beats and passionate vocals, with each piece - be it a reinterpreted folk song or an original composition - conveying its own story and emotion. Since their formation in 2018, Mitsune has surprised audiences on numerous European stages with their extraordinary fusion sound. Their debut album was praised by Songlines magazine as a "superb introduction to the world of tsugaru shamisen". Her second album "Hazama" further solidified Mitsune's presence on the global music stage, reaching the Top 10 of the Transglobal World Music Charts. Mitsune's performance on the Berlin Asia Arts Festival verspricht eine fesselnde Inszenierung von Klanglandschaften, in denen Tradition auf Innovation trifft.
