A national epic of Vietnam:The Girl Kieu by Nguyen Du
An unknown cultural world opens up and the Vietnamese national epic surprises: so much melody, rhythm and poetic images. A wealth of thoughts and folk wisdom live in these wonderful lines. The Girl Kieu has been translated into 20 languages. UNESCO honored the author in 2013 as an important personality in world literature.
The German translation by Franz and Irene Faber is the first in the German-speaking world. On the 250th anniversary of the poet, the painter Claudia Borchers and Dr. Truong Hong Quang published a bilingual book of the national epic in order to bring this important work closer to both the German audience and the Vietnamese who grew up here.
With Truong Hong Quang (introduction), Christiane Voigt (speaker) and Đặng Ngọc Long (guitar).
