Yuko Matsuyama

Yuko Matsuyama is a performing arts artist (vocal, dance, acting). She began traditional Japanese dance training with her mother at the age of two and completed her theatre training at Tanakrazuka Music School in Japan. In her youth, Yuko was involved in the musical/theatre group Takarazuka Revue. With famous Broadway musicals and her own productions she also performed outside Japan in London, Hong Kong and in 2000 at the Friedrichstadt-Palast Berlin. Yuko worked freelance in Japan in theatre productions, in Tokyo as a performer, company trainer and choreographic assistant. She found her way to the contemporary dance scene through her collaboration with the Finnish choreographer Tomi Paasonen. Since 2010 she has been based as an artist at Haus Schwarzenberg in Berlin, where she also organises live performances as an experimental platform at the interface between dance and music. From 2015 to 2017 she is studying for a Master's degree in choreography at the HfS "Ernst Busch" (Zentrum Tanz Berlin).
As a singer, she has worked with Jochen Arbeit (Einstürzende Neubauten, AUTOMAT), Patric Catani, Murat Ertel (BabaZula, Istanbul), Bob Rutman, Schneider TM aka. Dirk Dresselhaus, and Hula Hut & The Seven Seas, among others.
