Mio Okido

Mio Okido, born in 1986 in Niigata, Japan, is an interdisciplinary artist who studied at Tokyo University of Arts, Weißensee Academy of Art, and Berlin University of the Arts. Her work, characterized by the use of a variety of media and techniques, explores memory culture, national identity, and the impact of historical tragedies on human communities. In particular, she sheds light on the influence of social, ethnic, and ideological differences. Okido's focus is on deconstructing hegemonic understandings of history and reexamining them on individual, community, and collective levels. In recent works, she has devoted herself to the complex history of the Japanese Empire and the fragmentation of German national identity. Okido lives and works in Berlin.
