Martin Jankowski, born in Greifswald in 1965, is a Berlin writer who belonged to the oppositional Leipzig scene in the 1980s as a singer and songwriter and was subjected to "decomposition measures" by the Stasi. After 1989 he published numerous songs, four volumes of poetry, short stories, volumes of essays, literary criticism, art-related non-fiction and a novel. His texts have been translated into 19 languages and received various awards. Jankowski is a regular guest at international festivals and universities, directs international cultural projects, and has hosted literary salons for many years. As project director, he coordinated the STADTSPRACHEN Festival with Berliner Literarische Aktion e.V. in 2016; the Urban Dictionary Berlin-New York Festival in 2018; and the Middle East Union Festival and UNRAST Berlin - the German-Polish Literary Forum in 2021.  Since 2017, he has been project director of PARATAXE and editor of the multilingual Berlin /stadtsprachen magazine. Jankowski is a member of PEN Berlin and was, among other things, co-founder of the international literature festival berlin (ilb, 2001) and the network Freie Literaturszene Berlin (NFLB, 2015). Numerous publications and projects connect him with Asian cultures (uDYStopia, Jakarta Berlin Arts Festival, and many more); in 2021, together with Vietnamese friends from Berlin, he founded the Berlin Asia Arts Club at Novilla, which also organizes the BERLIN ASIA ARTS FESTIVAL.
