Dea Karina explores sonic production from various instruments including a cigarbox guitar, synthesizers, and vocals blanketed by layers of effects and loops.
She's particularly interested in manifesting discourse around topics such as feminism, racism, colonization, food, indigenous issues, and cyborgs though her work. Aside from her noise/ambient noisy transmission solo project, she also produces electronic music under the name d3k4 and is part of the London experimental duo Tujuh Kuda.
As a researcher, Dea’s focus is on the anthropology of circuit-bending as a statement of resistance to the capitalist logic of planned obsolescence in Global Norths and Souths.
Dea has written for Vice, performed at Jogja Noise Bombing Festival (2018 & 2020), SOTU Online Festival 2020, Waltham Forest Borough of Culture 2019, Muara Suara 2020. Her works have been released by The Dark Outside (UK), Noise Bombing (Indonesia), Dubbed Tapes (Aotearoa) and Mindblasting Netlabel (Yogyakarta). Instagram: @repost.institute
