Zoncy is a Berlin based feminist activist from Myanmar. She will perform her poetry for us in English with Burmese passages.
Ma Thida is a Burmese writer and activist, who will read from her newest yet unpublished book A-Maze about how the fight for democracy developed in the last few years in their home country. She began writing short stories in the mid-1980s. However, due to increasing censorship by the military regime of the time, it became increasingly difficult for her to publish her literary texts in magazines. In 1993, Ma Thida was sentenced to twenty years in prison for supporting the pro-democracy movement, especially the party of Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi. She is the founder of PEN Myanmar, and in her exile in Berlin she is the chair of the "Writers in Prison" of PEN international. The reading will take place in English moderated by Martin Jankowski.
Die Lesung findet in englischer Sprache statt, moderiert von Martin Jankowski.
